Community Outreach
We are committed to serving the local community on the causes as listed below, but not limited to:

-
Refugee Resettlement Program - Our congregation has a long history of helping refugee families resettle in our community. In the 1970's we helped a Vietnamese family start a new life here in Matawan. With our help the parents found employment and housing. They became active members of our congregation. Then in early 1980, we sponsored a family from Cambodia. They also eventually joined our church and the children went to Youth Group. They remained active for over 20 years. Since 1999 we have partnered with Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Aberdeen to help resettle a new wave of refugee families from the former Yugoslavia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Russia and Bhutan. Our goal, together with the families, is self-sufficiency and assimilation into the community. We work together with them to find jobs, enroll their children in school, and learn everyday details of living life in a new country. The families we have worked with are hard-working and resourceful, and they have a zest for life that inspires us. They are our friends now, and they have taught us a lot about their cultures and their faiths. We have also seen what it means to them to have hope for a better life for their children.
